Animalert is the citizen-built, free app to report and find lost, found, injured or deceased animals. It is run by a non-profit (French loi 1901 association) registered in February 2024 and powered by 45 active volunteers. Since February 2025 it has been in public beta, tested by more than 200 people across every French department.
Its model relies on local authorities subscribing to a suite of tools to better protect animals and support residents and municipal teams, which keeps the service entirely and permanently free for individuals. The app's official launch, planned for autumn 2026, is conditioned on an initial coverage of 100,000 committed inhabitants. Animalert also publishes WikiPaw, a non-profit media outlet on the animal cause.
