Animalert is a French not-for-profit association, governed by the law of 1 July 1901. You can write to us at contact@animalert.app.
These terms cover the use of the Animalert app, of animalert.app and of the wikipaw.animalert.app wiki. By using them, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use Animalert.
How we handle your personal data is set out in our privacy policy.
Access reserved for partner organisations is covered by a separate agreement, which prevails over these terms.
Who can use Animalert
Animalert is not intended for anyone under the age of 13.
An account is created with a phone number and a code received by SMS. That account is personal: do not share it, and do not create several.
Using Animalert is free. The app is downloaded from the app stores, whose own terms apply to the download itself.
What Animalert does not do
Animalert helps you spread an alert and receive the ones around you. It is not an emergency service.
In an emergency, call a vet, your town hall, the pound or the police: we do not stand in for any of them, and we do not intervene on the ground.
We cannot promise that an animal will be found, nor that a report will be seen by any particular person.
Reports are written by the people who publish them. We read them before they go live, but we cannot guarantee that what they contain is accurate.
Publishing a report or a pet profile
When you publish a report or a pet profile, you confirm that:
what you describe is true, and is not a made-up report;
the photos are yours, or you have the agreement of whoever took them;
the contact details given are yours, or you have the agreement of the person concerned;
you are not publishing anyone else's personal information.
Every publication is read by someone on our team before it becomes visible. It can be refused or taken down, and we tell you why. If you edit a report that is already live, your changes go back through that review.
A report for an animal found dead is not shown to other users: it reaches us and the organisation concerned, so that the animal can be taken care of.
You can close or delete your own reports at any time.
What is not allowed
On Animalert, you may not:
publish a report that is false, misleading or meant to harm;
publish someone else's animal, photos or information without their agreement;
harass, threaten, insult or discriminate against anyone;
ask a family for money in exchange for information about their animal or for its return;
contact someone about anything other than the animal concerned, in particular to sell, canvass or advertise;
collect, extract or reuse Animalert's content for anything other than the service itself;
work around the review of reports, the way accounts work, or the app's technical protections;
impersonate someone else;
use Animalert for commercial purposes.
Contact details and emergency cards
The contact details attached to a report stay hidden until someone asks to see them. That request is recorded and shown to the person who published the report, and the app warns you before.
Only use those contact details for the animal concerned.
On a pet's emergency card, only list someone who has agreed to it. Every opening of a card is visible to the animal's family.
Your content and ours
Your photos and your text stay yours. You only give us the right to host and display them within Animalert, for as long as they remain there, so that the service works.
Our own text, our visuals, the Animalert name and logo remain our property. The terms for reusing images are set out on the image licence page.
Leaving Animalert
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from inside the app: Settings → Delete my account. The account deletion page explains what that erases.
On our side, we can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and take down the content concerned. We say why whenever we can.
Donations and membership
Donations and memberships are voluntary and go through HelloAsso, which handles the payment.
A donation does not unlock any feature or any advantage in the app.
Animalert is provided free of charge, as it is. The service may be interrupted or changed, and some features may evolve or disappear.
We answer for our own faults on the terms the law provides. We are not responsible for content published by users, nor for what happens between people who meet through Animalert.
Nothing in these terms removes the rights the law gives you.
Updates and contact
These terms may change. The date at the top of this page changes with them, and we flag any significant change in the app or on the site. Continuing to use Animalert after that date means accepting them.
French law applies. If you live outside France, you keep the protection your local law gives you.
The French version of these terms is the reference one.
