Our collaboration

Data.gouv.fr is France's national open data platform, aggregating tens of thousands of public datasets. For Animalert, it is both a place to publish and a base of reference data we rely on day to day.

Our first role on the platform is as a contributor. Animalert publishes its own datasets under its organisation page, starting with a map of dog-waste-bag dispensers and bins across France, rebuilt from OpenStreetMap. Further publications are in preparation, on topics adjacent to reporting and caring for stray animals.

We also draw on the platform: official geographic references to cleanly tie every report to a commune and a département, public data on pounds and shelters to enrich our map of local structures. Working from open data forces us to document what we do, respect standard formats and stay transparent on how we cross-reference sources.

Joint initiatives

Animalert's published datasets

Animalert publishes its own datasets on data.gouv.fr, starting with the nationwide map of dog-waste-bag dispensers and bins rebuilt from OpenStreetMap. More publications are in preparation.

Geographic references

Integration of the official INSEE commune codes so every report can be reliably tied to a clear administrative territory.

Shelter and pound data

Cross-referenced public sources used to enrich our map of local structures and help families connect with the pound that covers their area.
